Lieutenant Governor inaugurated a showroom-less interpretation center at Government Woolen Mill, Bamna, set up under the World Bank-run Jhelum Toi Flood Rehabilitation Project, to ensure the growth of the woolen industry in Jammu and Kashmir In the first phase of the project, the showroom center was completed at a cost of Rs. 4.25 crore. This sub-project was initiated by the JTFRP project as part of livelihood restoration and strengthening. Secondly, the renovation and ancillary work of the machinery will be completed by the end of August, 2021 at a cost of Rs. 4.00 crore. In addition, it will provide market opportunities for thousands of wool growers in Jammu and Kashmir. He added that at the same time, the new facility would revolutionize the region's woolen industry on a large scale. It will provide a direct market for local wool, he said, adding that it will further improve the economic viability of Government Woolen Mills, Bamna. The lieutenant governor said that Jammu and Kashmir is the largest wool producing area in the country, which produces about 7 million kg of wool annually. The Lieutenant Governor said that the reform policies of the JUT government were providing economic growth opportunities to 50,000 sheep-raising families in Jammu and Kashmir. The project has been contracted by Silkmark Organization of India (SMOI) as an e-marketing channel. Which was badly damaged during the floods of 2014 and caused extensive damage to the building and equipment installed in the mill.
